Family Yard Day
This is only a small, small portion of the work we did on Sunday. Let's call it Family Yard Day. I wanted to learn how to mow, and I want our yard (that big, overwhelming, huge patch of weeds and grass) to look like this one yard in our neighborhood. It's lush, cropped short and a beautiful green.
Here's me with the biggest weed in our backyard.
I tried to get it up, but it wouldn't budge. If you can see the slight gap between my shirt and shorts, that little odd-shaped oval, that is badly sunburnt today, as are my shoulders and arms. How dumb am I to be out in the yard for 3+ hours without sunscreen?
Bean pulled weeds too,
and used the weed whacker.
All in all, we pulled 2 bags of weeds from the front and back yard. That's in addition to the very very full bag Bean picked last time he mowed. We also mowed both lawns- it really is hard to push a lawn mower up at an angle, but it's a good workout. I was expecting my muscles to be sore, not my skin from a sunburn! Bean did the edging and I wet the lawn down to get ready for the fertlizer.
I thought it would be funny if a few drops of water got on Bean while he was blowing some of the clippings down the storm drain. I had my finger over the opening of the hose and my distance was impressive. I kept trying and trying to get him- just a little bit- until I accidentally got him good and he got mad. When he's working, he really does not want to have fun.
Putting down the fertilizer was my favorite part because I thought about the weeds dying and the beautiful new grass growing. Plus it was easy.
He sprayed me back when he re-wet the lawn.
A few words of wisdom: Wear Sunscreen. Hire someone to do yardwork.
