Date Night- one week ago

Bean and I used to have a Date Night nearly once a week when we were dating. It was insane. Maggie would call me to go to a movie or something and I'd say, "Can't- we're having date night" and her reply half the time was, "Again?!"

We kept it up and at work I became known for our fun date nights. The very first one we went on was the best one. We went to dinner somewhere and then to the Mavs vs. Rockets game. Bean planned it and it was hands down the best one. We've gone to the aquarium, just to dinner, the movies, and lots of other stuff I really don't remember. But somewhere along the way- probably with planning the wedding- we stopped. I think we stopped so we could try to save money, but now that we're doing well and are able to save a chunk of change, we should start up again.

I used to shave my legs and everything!

So we heard that Stoney LaRue was playing an acoustic set at this hole-in-the-wall bar about 3 minutes from our house called Hat Tricks. It was on a Wednesday night so we figured it would be fun to have a date night and go see him, thinking it would be about $10 each and not very crowded. By the way, Stoney LaRue sang our first dance song ("Feet Don't Touch the Ground") and what was supposed to be our last private dance at our reception ("Let Me Just Hold You"). That didn't happen- thanks DJ- but I digress.
Here we are in the back corner of Hat Tricks, next to the pool tables. We have just parked across the street and jaywalked over since the parking lot was full, paid $17 a piece to get in (!!) and the place is so packed that we could barely make it over to this back area, where we can't see the stage and it is approximately 86 degrees. We know that because we are sitting next to the thermostat. That's probably why we look a little sweaty.
The owner of Hat Tricks is one of the Dallas Cowboys coaches, and had prepared a lovely video montage of musical acts that have never and would never play at Hat Tricks, but then ended with Stoney. It was random and odd and hilarious all at once. We got to watch that before the real music started. The concert was supposed to start at 10, but of course didn't start until about 11. On a work night, when I wake up at 5:30am and Bean gets up around 6. But we had a good time.
Some crazy guy wearing a safari hat came over and started telling us that Stoney had pretty good lyrics, but that he had about 20 more better lyrics and he was going to pass them to Stoney on stage. He came back later and said something to me, and touched me on my knee twice. Scary!
We waited to hear one of our two songs, but decided if it got to 11:45 we would leave so we could get some sleep. It was getting close to that time, so we made our way back to the other side of the packed bar and I was able to get this picture of Stoney in his bandana:
We realized that it was about 20 degrees cooler on the other side of the bar so we stayed for a few more minutes- just to see if the next song would be ours. Then my 2nd Cousin Megan walked up! She lives in Lewisville but we haven't found a chance to hang out. We told her we were on our way home and as we were walking out, we heard "Let Me Just Hold You".
By that point we were so exhausted, we just headed home. All in all, it was a great date night and one I won't soon forget.
