Lovely Day

Today was just what I needed. I had the weekend off with minimal plans- just a baby shower on Saturday.

We spent lots of time with friends on Friday and Saturday night, and celebrated Bonnie and Nulph's engagement- even though they were not back from NYC yet.

Sunday, Bean and I went to Home Depot to get some new weather stripping for the front door and started looking at supplies for our kitchen. We were given 4 boxes of travertine tile and planned to purchase a few boxes here and there until we had enough to do the kitchen/powder bath/laundry room as well as the master bath and entryway. We calculated the cost of all that nice tile and it was more than we want to spend on this house. So one thing led to another, and we priced out new countertops, a sink, faucet, backsplash, different tile for the floor, and appliances. And the total was much less than either of us thought. Even with rounding up on every single thing!

I was off today and I'm off tomorrow. Today, I took Brooklyn to the vet for a checkup and confirmed that she does not have heartworms. She got really worked up, which made me do the same- I sat trembling while they took her back for her bloodwork. I can't imagine what it will be like with a human child. We came back and took a nap.

Then I had a lovely shopping trip to the grocery store. My cart was full of fruits and veggies and other healthy stuff. I took a picture of it! I spent the afternoon cooking several sides to eat later in the week: barley with lemon and herbs, white beans, carrot soup, and marinated zucchini and onions.

So it's 5pm and I have the dishwasher running, the kitchen cleaned, and all of my delicious healthy food stocked up in the fridge. And we are going to Home Depot tonight to get the ball rolling. I can't think of a more fun way to spend the evening.

Tomorrow I have an eye doctor appointment, then cooking a few more sides: black bean salad, chocolate pudding (made with tofu!), and broccoli slaw.

Next weekend, Bean will remove all of the tile from the kitchen/powder bath/laundry room and entryway floors, as well as the backsplash. The weekend after that, I will paint the kitchen cabinets and replace the hinges. Then I'm off that Monday and hopefully we will get new countertops and tile and appliances.

I can't wait!
