This year, Bean turned 29. Talk about LATE 20's! Next year he will be really old. I figure I better give him a kid around that time before he is too old to play with them. ;)
I think it was his best birthday yet. Everything was great. I think it's because I tried to give him what he wants on his birthday (no attention at all)- except I did say 'Happy Birthday' first and last every time I talked to him that day- from the second he woke up until we went to sleep.
When he got home from work, I had his gift and card sitting on the kitchen bar. There were instructions on the card:
Step 1: Go to the fridge, get a beer, open it. (I put a 6-pack of some fancy beer in there)
Step 2: Open this card, read it. (It was something funny about farting or butts)
Step 3: Open your gift. (It was a knife with a cool black blade that stays sharp for a long time)
Step 4: Go eat with your wife.
In between steps 2 and 3, we got a knock at the front door, and it was the UPS guy dropping off all of the info for our Scotland trip! It was a perfect addition to our perfect pre-dinner celebration.
For dinner, I took him to a cooking class at Central Market. It was really dull at first, and I felt bad that it wasn't as fun as some of the cooking classes I've been to- it really depends on the instructor- but in the end, we had a lot of food, and everyone sang Happy Birthday to him. I think I was more embarassed than him, since I let the 'it's his birthday' secret slip to our fellow classmates.
All in all, the evening went great and I wish we had more nights like that. Carefree, relaxed, and fun. Just great.
