We completed another step toward our new adventure today- we applied for a mortgage. I will be the 'borrower' and Bean is the 'co-borrower'. It really makes no difference, but between you and I, I'm pretty excited to have a house in my name. Plus I had a good time (about 3 hours worth) filling out the application and gathering up all of the documents that we need yesterday.
When we got there, our loan guy said that he thinks he found a way that we can get an FHA loan, which is the kind we wanted but weren't sure we'd be able to get since we already have one on this house. Basically if he can prove why it's necessary for us to move from our current house- the distance from our work, Bean's truck/gas expense- we may be able to get another FHA loan. Which means that we don't have to have as high of a down payment, and we're closer to getting our house. And we won't completely deplete our savings and have to dip into an IRA or something (scary!).
I just wish I could get someone with Century 21 Judge Fite to actually respond to my emails and let me know what's going on with our lease. If they won't respond now, how do I know they will be on top of things when we're entrusting them to handle the landlord duties after we get a tenant?
