Today I worked open to close by myself, sold over $5000 of paint by myself, helped 30 or more customers by myself, and it was great.
It was great of course because of the sales- we started a commercial job across the street from us, and he was my 3rd customer at 7:45 this morning. I got to shake 100 gallons of Block Filler for him.
It was great because when I got hungry at lunchtime, I was able to heat my lunch while helping a customer and eat it when it was done, without getting up or my food getting cold.
It was great because I was able to take a break in the afternoon and have a snack and read a magazine for a few minutes.
It was great because all of the big orders I had went out the door instead of taking up space in my warehouse for a few more days, and I was able to rearrange some stuff and clear out some room. One of the biggest obstacles I have is lack of space and keeping everything cleared out and neat, especially when working on a big job.
It was great because I'm pretty sure I shipped out the last of the exterior apartment rehab we did (that 650 gallon order). That was about $28,000 in sales over the course of the job.
By the way, does anyone know how much Block Filler weighs? Let me remind you that I shook 100 gallons myself, plus helped the painter with another 100 at the end of the day, plus unloaded 80 more off a truck, onto a pallet, then off the pallet because it wouldn't go up the ramp because it's so heavy, then back onto the pallet. Each 5-gallon bucket of Block Filler weighs 70 pounds. If I were to hold a five of Block Filler in each hand, it would weigh more than I do. Does anyone know of something else that weighs 70 pounds that we can compare this to?
That is why I decided to skip the gym tonight and have some wine and chocolate instead. How am I going to stay in shape when I start my own business that doesn't involve lifting 3360 pounds in a day?
