New fun website: Polyvore

Pinterest has exploded as one of the most fun websites among my friends- and really most women. At first I didn't understand what the point of it was, but after I tried again, I am hooked! It makes me feel creative just looking at the pictures and imagining myself actually doing the crafts or projects or cooking the meal in the pictures.

Some of the links take you to a website called Polyvore, where people post collections or outfits they create. Usually I'll just repin an outfit someone already made up but I was bored tonight and decided to see what would happen if I let my creativity take over and come up with my own outfits. At first it was hard because I'm a perfectionist so I wanted each item to be an excellent choice, all items affordable, would look good on me, etc etc etc. Then I decided to take the rules away and just pick things I like and put them together.

SO MUCH FUN. Like playing dress up in my head. And it's certainly something I can take and try to find items in my price range that give the same look. I discovered I have expensive taste- there's something that costs a thousand bucks more than once in my groupings. But expensive taste usually means good taste, right? I hope so.

I started with this black lace dress. It made me think of growing up going to the Houston Ballet every year for the nutcracker and how I always wanted to do that with my kids. And always eat at Birraporetti's downtown first. This is what I would wear, with my hair up in a loose updo and lots of eyelashes:

Then I started thinking about Summer and how I can't wait for it to get warm so I can drag Bean to some outdoor concerts in our area. I love live music, it doesn't even matter if it's bad. We pack a little dinner- crackers and cheese, veggies, some dessert and of course sneak in some wine in a water bottle! This is what I would wear to that, with long wavy hair. Of course the sandals I was most attracted to are Gucci, and I'm not even interested in labels.

I stuck with the summer mindset and wanted to create an outfit based off of my fantasy of owning white jeans with zippers at the ankles. I thought I would wear this to a mexican restaurant's patio with a good friend and sit all afternoon drinking margaritas and solving the problems of the world. I also want some Toms, since all my friends have them and they look so comfy.

It was a fun experiment. When I posted these to Pinterest, within 30 minutes the first one was repinned over 50 times! I was blown away. Not that other people's approval matters all that much, but it feels good to know that maybe I do have at least a slight idea of how to put together an outfit.

Even if it is in fantasy land where spending over a grand on one pair of jeans is reasonable.

I love Pinterest and Polyvore, though I've only made a couple of outfits on Polyvore (and one was an outfit currently in my closet!) I love it when something that I orginally pinned gets repinned!

Love all the outfits! I love seeing outfits all put together for me. They are way easier for me to copy that way!
