Life After the Cleanse

On the last day of my 2-week cleanse, it was Valentine's Day. I was so excited about my beautiful 'fancy' chocolates from my Valentine and the champagne I knew he had waiting at home. It was really fun to indulge in those things I'd been looking forward to. What's funny is when we went to the dine-in movies, the only thing that sounded appetizing to me was the veggie plate with hummus. So I had a little more wine and vegetables for dinner!

Roasted vegetables is probably my new favorite dinner, and smoothies are my new favorite breakfast (and maybe lunch). I'm enjoying more salads for lunch, skipping the cheese and meat. And I really love lemon water now! Maybe it's mental in that I know it's good for my system, but it works.

At a work lunch today, I had a delicious salad and one of those awesome rolls from the Italian place. I just ate it slower and stopped at one- I knew I was full but they smelled so good!

Last night, I discovered white wine tastes great paired with Samoas (really called Caramel Delites). When I thought about having a 3rd glass and all the cookies that go with it, I decided to go to sleep instead. Again, I knew I wasn't hungry but the tastes were so tempting.

I think that's been my problem all along- learning to listen to my body when it's full and stopping then. Unfortunately a good meal is one of my favorite things in life, and when it tastes good I don't want to stop. Add that to my smaller frame (which means eating less food and feeling full faster) and it's a tough thing to balance.

Giving up steak, chicken, cheese, or icecream will never happen for me completely. I don't think eating fake 'vegan cheese' or processed soy alternatives is healthy. And I could never give up sugar, but fruit is more appealing now. I think it's a daily choice what you put in your body, and now it's easier for me to make the choices I know are the most beneficial.

Good for you! I am struggling with the giving up cokes thing, but I'm going to keep trying!
