Our great friends Elissa and Joey threw us a Couple's Baby Shower a couple of weeks ago. They love to entertain as much as we (I) do, so I was very excited about it. A lot of questions circulated such as, 'What is a couple's shower?' and 'What are the guys going to do?'. They had a great plan for the afternoon: Everyone arrives at 3pm, the guys all leave to go have male-bonding time at Dave & Busters, while the girls sit around and eat girly food and drink champagne and open gifts. Then the boys come back and everyone gets to eat dinner together and hang out.
I'd been looking forward to the party for months and then it happened: I got a cold. A bad one. (knock on wood) I never get sick! A couple of coworkers were sick and I would have left early to avoid picking anything up but that week I had both a chiropractor and midwife appointment and didn't want to drive an extra 50 miles to go home on two different days.
So I stayed at work and on Friday of what's probably my last 3-day weekend ever, I woke up feeling really bad. I stayed on the couch all day and had Bean bring home some vicks and a humidifier to get me through the night. I slept in the recliner with the humidifier next to my head and tons of vicks slathered all over. I felt best after a hot shower.
Saturday morning I was on the couch all morning while Bean went to work. He got home around noon and asked if I'd be ready to leave in an hour or so. As much as I wanted/needed to keep laying down for another hour, I got up and tried to get myself out the door. It still took 2 hours! (Normal get ready time for a big event, including the use of hot rollers = 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes)
We had a bit of tense time while we rushed to his parents house to meet up before the shower. I think once they saw me, everyone realized I should have just stayed home!

I'm so glad there are no pictures of me from that day, but I did get one of Bean:
He hit the jackpot that day and probably brought home some kind of great prize!
But back to the real fun- the girly part of the shower! I loved all of the details they came up with! I do wish we had a group shot of all of the girls and guys, and everyone together, but on the other hand it was really nice to spend quality time together and not have anyone worrying about taking a million pictures instead of just being in the moment. Besides, that's what the guest book is for!
The theme was yellow and green and birds. Here's the delicious buffet table:
Champagne for everyone but me! I loved refilling everyone's glasses to make sure they got their fill!
Favors were handmade chocolate birds nests with chocolate eggs nestled inside. The packaging was too cute.
More of the cute party decor. It's funny that the color of their living room walls went perfectly with the theme.
This was the funniest thing I've ever seen. They took pictures of each of our faces and cut them into strips corresponding with our features: forehead, eyes, nose, mouth, and chin and put them in bins. Then the guests picked out whatever strips they wanted to make a mock-up of what they thought Buck/Abigail would look like!
When all the boys got back, we had some BBQ for dinner!
One other highlight of the girls-only time was that we did the pencil test: you hold a pencil attached to a string over your right wrist (someone else holds it), and depending on the direction it swings, it predicts the sex of your baby. Apparently it predicts all of your babies, past, present and future. It will also tell you about twins and miscarriages.
In case you were wondering, it told me: GIRL, GIRL, BOY, GIRL, and then did some kind of weird swirl around the boy/girl- so I don't know if it was a miscarriage or twins. It did get the first one right!
