I just got back from the doctor for my follow-up appointment. My LDL cholesterol is 130, which according to WebMD is 'Borderline high', and my HDL is 91 which is 'Optimal'. I've always had a high HDL (the good one), probably because I eat so much olive oil, avocado, and peanut butter.
The high LDL is a wakeup call to stop eating as much butter and stay away from the fast food. Basically, get back to how I was in college, before I married a man who eats fast food for at least 1-2 meals a day. (Bad influence!) I'm only kidding, it's my fault for agreeing to go to Sonic and Whataburger and for telling myself that it's ok to eat butter anytime because I don't have a weight issue.
Maggie thinks (and I agree) that I've probably always had a problem with cholesterol, just when I was being so picky about my food and trying to eat perfectly, I was able to keep it under control. Now that I've let it slide a little bit, it's showing up in my lab work. My doctor says that it's not that bad, and to keep doing what I'm doing. I take that as "Start working out again, and eat like you know you should! No excuses!"
The Thyroid thing is still ongoing. My TSH level was 6.43, and the normal range is 0.4 to 4.5. So I'm obviously much higher than that. They took more blood today and are going to test it again and try to pinpoint where I'm at more closely; make sure it's still that high, etc. I have a prescription for some medicine that I'm told to wait to get filled until we get the results back.
I forsee a long future of daily medicine and lots more blood work. Good thing I got over the being afraid of needles thing.
