Jury Duty

Today was my first legitimate summons for Jury Duty. I got one in Houston while I was in school, so I was exempt. My company is so great that I am being paid for 8 hours of work today, when I was only at the courthouse about an hour and a half.

I am sad to report that I was not selected, probably because I was near the end of the list. The trial was expected to end around lunch time so it would have been the perfect first-time experience. Plus it wasn't anything serious, a misdemeanor only resulting in a fine.

One of my favorite classes in college was a law class that had to do with Journalism- media law and things like slander, and libel. Really interesting stuff. Plus my favorite author, Jodi Piccoult, has several books that have courtroom scenes in them. Hopefully I will be summoned again soon and be able to serve on a jury next time.

I have never been called to jury duty. I can't believe you have been called twice! Speaking of Jodi Piccoult, have you read her book, My Sister's Keeper? I have the book but haven't started yet.

So weird! I got a summons on Friday! I kind of hope I get picked too, just so I can say I experienced it!
