Entryway: After!

When we walk into the Entryway now, it feels like our home, just how we want it to look. I always wanted the walls white, with a wood staircase and the beams in the ceiling. The floor will eventually be done when we update our kitchen since it goes through the entire area. We hope you enjoy this room as much as we do!

We moved the old changing table from the nursery into this space because it fits so much better than the old one. The old one is much better suited to the nursery with it's larger storage drawers. If we ever convert to a no shoes family, our guests can use one drawer each to put their shoes in! The vase is Bean's 9th Anniversary gift to me (traditional gift is pottery).

Much to my chagrin we are continuing the blue doors we started in the hallway and bedrooms into most areas of the house. I love the contrast between the very light gray walls, the off white trim, and the blue doors.

The style of 'X's' with wire is a combo I never pictured but when Bean saw it in a house the company was working on, he sent me a picture and we knew instantly, that was the style we liked. So much more fun than the traditional style.

I used a walnut gel stain to pull together the previously stained wood that remained and the new raw wood that was added. We kept the banister and most of the rest, but the 'X's' were all new. The posts had a piece cut off to make them more streamlined and simple.

Brooklyn needed to show you how she climbs the stairs and waits at the top. I love how simple the walls are, but not boring because of the picture frame molding.

"Mom, look! Take a picture of me!"

Abigail at the entrance of her room. This hallway has two lights within a few feet of each other. We used the same fixtures as the downstairs hallway. The wall color is a shade lighter but we wanted to keep it simple instead of doing a darker shade on just three walls.

I gambled and did not paint the door to the attic or to the hot water heater the blue color. I think it's fine, but Bean would prefer all of the doors to be blue. I thought it was only going to be doors to bedrooms, bathrooms, and closets (and then the front door got tossed into the pot). At least the doors match the trim so we are in no rush to paint them anytime soon. Also we plan to replace the louvered door to the hot water heater because it's random and ugly. But at least it matches for now. Also picture this with the stained hardwood floors coming soon.

Brooklyn checking out downstairs while we check out the hallway looking toward the Entry. So much more relaxing with it all one color. We love the simple and industrial light fixture. Lowe's has great lighting. We prefer Home Depot for most everything else, except paint of course. Sherwin Williams all the way!

Here are a couple of details- the light fixture uses an edison bulb which looks cool even when the light is off. And Bean wanted to put in a fun register since the paneling was built around it. I love what he found and it looks amazing. We plan to create some art to hang in this corner- sheet music for a song about home, but that little detail hasn't come together just yet.

A view from the top looking down. We don't know what we will eventually do with the tile floors. I like the idea of stained concrete or something very plain- large tiles in a neutral shade that just disappear but are easy to clean.

We love the wooden chandelier, it feels very warm and also uses edison bulbs. These are a yellow color so they warm up the room even though it's so gray overall. Side note on the garland- this is my first ever garland and I was excited about it, but when I started hanging it, I realized I didn't buy enough! This is only for the holidays so it will be taken down soon and I'll be able to buy more to put in storage for next year.

The simplicity of the room is my favorite part! And knowing how well we worked as a team on this project is even better.
