Back Hallway: After Part 2!

We finally finished re-hanging the barn door in the back hallway! It was easier than expected but we still took our time and worked over two weekends to get it done.

First, we took down the door and ripped off the old strip of wood. It messed up the sheetrock pretty bad.

Then the next weekend, we were ready to fix it up. Our daughter and Mickey helped. She asked for this picture.

Bean did the first part: he cut the wood, and beveled all four edges so it would be a softer transition than it was before. He hung it 2.5 inches lower than the original, so the door would be 1/2 inch off the ground.

Here's a close up of the inside edge, it looks so much nicer. He filled the holes with a few coats of wood putty, sanding in between each one.

The whole strip in place, ready for more prep and paint.

I caulked around all the edges, touched up the texture that was ripped down with the other piece of wood, and let it all dry. We decided to paint it the wall color so it would fade into the background. As soon as I got done painting, my girl wanted to climb the ladder.

And here is the door fully installed. We are so in love with it!

That looks great! Nice work! Pretty sure you couldn't have done it without a little help from Abby and Mickey! ;-)
