This room is not perfect. It's lived in. It has more items than we originally planned, and one major feature less, which to Bean and I think makes it feel a little sad. Although we are getting used to it and unfortunately for us trying to be great parents, will probably never be fixed.
After Bean installed the wood on the ceiling, I mixed some flat paint the same color as our trim with water and white washed the wood. It was really tough to let it be imperfect! We installed a new ceiling fan with a remote control. This is fun because I hate ceiling fans, but one of my friends put this same model in her guest room and when I was taking a tour of her house for the first time, I was compelled to compliment her on the cute fan!
So we put it in this room, the guest room, and the nursery!
Bean and her husband also lamented how difficult this particular model is to install because of the extra wires it has for the remote control. Both my friend and I laugh because we don't care about the remote control, we just liked how simple the fan looks.
We painted the shelves a dark pink to coordinate with the comforter, and I had a hard time deciding on the curtains. I had them made from a shop on Etsy.
One of the colors coordinates perfectly with the wall color, and although I think Abby doesn't like that they are not pink, she hasn't complained. We installed them with a wire curtain rack from Ikea that you can customize to the exact space- you cut the wire to match whatever width you have.
This was one of my biggest concerns with the shelf- how to install curtains with it. I didn't like the way the old blinds had a piece of cardboard blocking off the top of the windows since they have a different shape at the top. Curtains to the rescue!
I should also note the huge round cushion on the floor. If you look directly above it, you will notice a hook hanging from the ceiling. This is where her cream gauze canopy used to be.

A one A.E.B. was swinging from it instead of sleeping during nap time and got gauze burns (similar to carpet burns) on her armpits. Then another time the canopy came completely off the hook and she spent nap time unraveling the large thick knot at the top. There was no way to fix it and hang it up so it had to go in the trash.
Bean and I loved the canopy and so did Abs but ultimately we don't think we should spend another $50 (which is way cheaper than most canopies we found and it looked the best) to replace something she knowingly destroyed. Sad Day.
Big sister is modeling her bed that has a trundle underneath. She picked the comforter from a catalog from a couple of choices I gave her. Bean really didn't want her walls to be pink (neither did I) but in the future she will get to have lots more say in how her room turns out.
She picked the lamp base and shade from World Market.
The artwork we all picked together, and it includes photos of her with each of us individually. The large metal arrow at the bottom of the collage was another issue as one A.E.B. used to take it down and swing it around the room during nap time. It got put in time out a few times and was almost taken away for good but was miraculously left alone after that final threat!
The book corner opposite the former canopy corner. I loved these wire bins and they are perfect for controlling the number of books we keep at any one time.

The treehouse is her big gift from this Christmas.
She wanted a Frozen themed room, but neither Bean nor I could stomach it, so but I did find these pieces of art that coordinate very well and she loves. The dresser is mostly empty except for a drawer of undies and PJ's. I love knowing they are not jam packed- it's the minimalist in me!
So when we got this project going, we got a wild hair once it started coming together so quickly. The carpet was scheduled to be installed in here and in the guest room just up the hall, as well as the nursery downstairs. We weren't changing anything about the nursery except a couple of little details, but the guest room needed a ton of work.
We figured if we planned to eventually do the ceiling, we might as well do it before the new, clean carpet went in so we wouldn't have to worry about getting it messy. So we just did the project. All of it. We had about a week and a half (luckily it included a weekend) to finish the whole guest room, but we did it. I was 6 months pregnant too, and we were about to tear each other's faces off. But it's all done and it was worth it the short term stress. I'll post that room's before and afters soon!
