The Last Frontier

The Powder Bath.

The only room in the house that has not been finished. We got the itch on Sunday and spent about 3 hours going to 2 different Home Depots and one Lowe's looking for just the right fixtures. I thought we were going with Brushed Nickel throughout the house, until we remembered that we put in a mix of Pewter and Oil-Rubbed Bronze lights throughout the downstairs. So for this room only, we will be using an Oil-Rubbed Bronze light fixture, faucet, and accessories.
We were very confused for awhile, and at first Bean wanted to take out the pedestal sink and put in a new one with a cabinet. The only one we found that would fit in the space had this disgusting plastic sink and I couldn't bring myself to buy it. Two stores later, Bean gave up and said we should keep the sink and just replace the faucet. We found the faucet we wanted at Home Depot #2 (in Lewisville), but they were sold out. So we drove back to our first stop, the Home Depot in Flower Mound, and they didn't have it. But they did have the same style cabinet with a china sink- but by then Bean was over the whole situation so we settled for a different faucet, got our accessories, and went home.
Here is the 'before' picture:
I always forget to take a good 'before' because we get so excited to change it and start ripping stuff out before I remember to take one. This room is underneath the stairs, so it's tiny and has an awkward ceiling. The floors, toilet, and possibly sink will eventually be replaced when we renovate the kitchen, but for now we are going to update it without the huge expense.

Here's a close up of the lovely wallpaper and popcorn ceiling. Bean took the ceiling down in about 30 minutes, and we spent another hour working on the wallpaper. It was quite a bit of work. My favorite part was the wall next to the toilet that had some random sticky gunk on it, as did the part behind the toilet. I don't know what it was, nor do I want to know!
We also cut the cord on some random wire that went from the garage, through a hole in the bathroom and was threaded/stapled along the trim. We figured out it was hooked up to the security system we don't pay for and therefore don't use, so we got rid of that eyesore.
Here's a close up of the lovely faucet that's on it's way out the door:

Notice the crust underneath and the beautiful crystal plastic knobs.
This project and a new stamped concrete patio are on our radar for the next month and a half. I am getting another bid for the patio on Friday, and if it works out we shold have that done hopefully this month. Happy Birthday to me. And Happy Belated Birthday to Bean.
