First Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day!

I wanted a quick and easy breakfast that would get the day off to a great start and make it feel special. With the remodeling going on at our house, it's a little tense around here sometimes so we needed something fun for this Friday!

What could be better than pink sweet potato pancakes? I found a mix without added sugar, so I just mixed it up and added food coloring. It was easy to make a heart shape by putting the mix in a ziploc and cutting off the tip.

I think she's figuring out when the big black thing comes out to give a cute face.

I ate mine with nutella....shhhh! She enjoyed cramming it all together into her mouth.

I don't think she liked the soup.

Just kidding!

We had a crazy day.

After almost 2 weeks where her naps were at a consistent time and length, she threw me a curveball today. Of course it's the day I have a work deadline! She fought her nap tooth and nail and long story short, we both took a 2.5 hour nap in the middle of her bedroom floor wrapped up in our comforter. It's good news for me because I didn't sleep last night.

I did still manage to get a couple of smiles by reheating some chicken noodle soup for dinner. Love that freezer cooking!

Let's hope things get back to normal or she grows some teeth or something.

Blueberry Pancakes

Lazy Sunday mornings (wait, what are those again?!) call for pancakes. I love mine with chocolate chips, Bean prefers his plain, and I decided to throw out all of those rules and make blueberry pancakes. Yes, they are whole wheat, yes, they have oatmeal in them, and no we won't be making them again. But they were healthy for our little lady!

I still added chocolate chips to mine, and a side of nutella.

Check out that close-up setting on the camera!

Usually we sing songs while eating breakfast.

She's getting really good at holding foods. I've seen her pick up a strand of cheese between her pointer finger and thumb and successfully get it into her mouth. She prefers to eat real foods to the pouches, but I like to offer the pouches at each meal to make sure she gets more fruits/veggies.

Her newest trick is to close her eyes and raise her eyebrows, then slowly open her eyes. I think it's the beginning of an eye-roll.

Her favorite part of this was the blueberries. Obviously she didn't get her Aunt Liz's hatred of cooked fruits.

Starting solids was scary at first. Once I got comfortable with nursing, now all of a sudden we have to switch it up. But once we got the hang of it, I'm having fun giving her things and finding out what she likes. So far the only thing she doesn't like is peas in a pouch. Or the pouches with meat in them. (Gross! Would you like ground up pureed meat?)

She is on a pasta kick now, and has tried lasagna, penne, bowtie, tortellini, and ravioli. Tortellini with pesto was her favorite. Also eggs are still a breakfast favorite, as well as ezekiel toast. She's a pretty good eater- she likes to take her time and enjoy that time. I look forward to the conversations we will have!

Broccoli Girl!

I am so excited to report that my girl loves broccoli! I steamed some up to have with a tuna helper thing I made for dinner. I made it extra soft and she was all over it. Next time I'm going to add some olive oil for extra fats.

Trying to get super healthy food into her has made me pay more attention to what I'm feeding my own body (and Bean's, at least for dinner). I realized how easy it is for us to fall back on convenience foods that have no fruits or veggies at all.

We are trying to be semi laid-back about what we are feeding her- we don't hold back on seasonings and stuff. Except sugar. No added sugar until she's a year old. I have a huge sweet tooth and if I can help prevent that in her a little bit, that would be great!

Keep going for that broccoli baby girl!

I couldn't stop taking pictures of the broccoli love.

Squash Medely

In an effort to move away from the baby food pouches and toward healthy finger foods I steamed two kinds of squash: spaghetti and butternut. This was a fun dinner- Abigail gobbled it all up!

We laughed at the strands hanging from her fingers and chin that looked like a beard!

Check out that goatee!

Daddy is quite the fun eating distraction.

Breakfast Taco

Here was Abigail's third day eating breakfast. So far she had eggs all three days, and oatmeal twice. I wanted to mix it up so I made her a loose breakfast taco. I had one too. She had the yolks, I had the whites. Here's what she was thinking the whole time:

 "Mmmmm I like this tortilla!"

"Here, Mama- eat some of my eggs!"

 "Brooklyn, you taste them!"

"Hee hee, she ate them!"

"Clean my fingers off, Doggy Brooklyn!"

"Yeahhh!"

"Hi, Mama- what is that thing you are holding in my face?"

"See how cute I am when I eat eggs?"

"Hey, I don't want to take pictures of me eating eggs anymore!"

Then we decided to try a new game where we put her in a Gap bag. It was fun when I carried her into the dining room to get the camera, but she fell over right after this. Game over.
