We finally closed on Thursday afternoon, and got our keys on Friday. After I wrote the last post, I was still a basket case and half-crying every time I started to talk about it. But we let them know that I had to be at work all day on Thursday and Friday, and that if they didn't make it happen by Friday, we were going to walk away from the deal and get an apartment.
Luckily, we were able to get in on Friday and start prepping the downstairs rooms (kitchen, dining room, laundry room, master bed and bath) for popcorn removal. It took about 5 hours, with 2 great friends helping us tape and plastic everything off. Yesterday, we finished prepping everything and started scraping around noon. A mere 7 hours later, we had all of the rooms done. It was work, and it was messy, but it feels great now that we have that done.
We still have the upstairs and the monster living room ceilings that will require scaffolding to do, but we got our main areas done. Today we are going to re-texture the ceilings everywhere and the walls in the kitchen and master bath. The wallpaper in those two rooms came off incredibly easily (yay for that!) and we'll paint a little each day after work.
Note to self: removing popcorn ceilings really makes your forearms and hands and shoulders hurt a lot. Try not to do it for 7 hours next time.
