This was the view outside our front door on Christmas morning. It was even more beautiful the night before. We were inside on Christmas Eve, snuggled on the couch with our Christmas tree turned on, the fire going, and some lantern light we used as a makeshift extension cord so we could comfortably watch movies downstairs. While both of us nursed the flu. My fever got up to 103 that evening.
The next day was more of the same- me in my dirty robe, and Bean in his PJ pants. We gazed at our tree:
And found a show called 'Yule Log' that was a picture of a fire with Christmas music. We decided since it would be my first Christmas without seeing ANY of my family, and we wouldn't see much of his that we would cook our own Christmas dinner. I said I wanted broccoli-rice casserole, and we decided to get a roast chicken (it's easy), some sweet potatoes, and rolls.
It looks like that's what we have. It is, except for that casserole. While I was at work nursing my flu and probably spreading it to all of my customers, Bean did the grocery shopping. When he got home he realized he'd forgotten the broccoli for the casserole. By that time, I was home and wasn't leaving- we decided to improvise with the rice we had (brown rice) and spinach we had already. It was average. Certainly not something we'd make again!
It didn't really matter though, we both had no appetite and only ate 5 bites or so before throwing the rest away. At least we tried! Bean's parents came over for about an hour later that evening and brought a boatload of gifts. We opened those and then went to sleep.
After that, I proceeded to work 6 more days in a row before New Year's Day. We had a small get together at our house since we both kicked the flu in the butt on Christmas Day. We made steaks and chicken, my soon-to-be famous Brennan's macaroni and cheese, and had plenty of champagne. It was very relaxing and a lovely way to ring in the new year.
Brooklyn had fun too, she met her best girl-friend Foxy:
And near the end of the night, she snuggled on the back of the couch with her Uncle Ryan:
Her latest nickname is Bunny. Or Brooklyn Bunny Bell.
