Last week It happened.
My assistant was terminated.
Now when I go to work, I don't worry about anything. I am confident in my interactions with my customers. I don't have to watch my back every minute. I don't have to worry about what negative things are being said about me to customers or coworkers. I don't have to make a checklist every day so I can manage what goes on in my store when I'm not there.
Now I spend my time helping customers (funny how they don't annoy me anymore), talking on the phone to other managers and employees who want to know where the old assistant went (most are surprised when I tell them he was fired), and reviewing applications for his replacement (plus talking on the phone to more interested people).
On the first day the opening was posted, I got 8 applications. I have 1 interview done, 6 scheduled for this week, and 1 applicant turned down for lack of experience. On Wednesday I find out who else has posted and then I'll interview them. And next Tuesday, after the posting closes, I might even have more interviews to do.
I am so thankful for this Christmas gift and the opportunity to pick my right-hand man (or woman, but probably man), that not seeing my family for Christmas this year is worth it for a year full of hope and positivity.
